Below are the guidelines for the Teapot Sumo activity.

Teapot Sumo Rules, Regulations and Guidelines

Version 1.0 (Release)

Teapot sumo is the latest in Steampunk robotics. Build your own 2KG robotic sumo and challenge your steampunk competitors to push the opponent out of the Dohyō (sumo ring).

1. Getting Started

You will compete with a robot categorised as either feather-weight or heavy-weight. You can either create your robot or it can be a commercial chassis (bought off the shelf), it must include a teapot, or at least be steampunked!

2. Rules Overview

  1. Max weight 2kg
  2. Ring diameter 900mm - black with 19mm white band around the circumference
  3. Autonomous or Rc controlled classes
  4. Push out or render your opponent immobile (judges decision)
  5. Anything goes weapon wise but will be scrutinised and disqualifed if overly dangerous!!
  6. As soon as you are ready and want to fight….let it be known! :)
  7. Lithium battery powered robots should be fused
  8. Robots have to have a button accessable to the referee to start the fight. On depression of said button the robot will pause 5 seconds then start to do battle
  9. Heats will last 3 minutes long.
  10. Judges decision is final (see points system)

3. The Robot Arena

The arena consists of a ring which is 900mm in diameter with a 19mm white band around the circumference.

4. Rules

4.1 Weight and Size

2 weight categories are used to match robots for competing. Feather-weight, and heavy-weight. These will be decided during the event.

4.2. Weaponry

You are allowed any weapon of your choice. However, you will be scrutinised and disqualified if overly dangerous! i.e. no EMP devices, ballistics, or any heat generated which could be a potential fire hazard.

4.3. Batteries

All batteries must be fused, especially if the robot is using Lithium Polymers (LiPo) or Nickel Metal Hydrides (NiMh).

5. Robot Guidelines

5.1. Control Systems?

It is up to you to decide whether you would like the robot to be autonomous or radio controlled.

5.2. 3, 2, 1, Activate!

Robots have to have a button accessible to the referee to start the fight. On depression of said button the robot will pause 5 seconds then start battling.

6. Goals and Points System

6.1. What is the Goal?

The goal is to push out or render your opponent immobile.

6.2. Points System

Where necessary the robots will be assessed on:

  • Aggression x3
  • Damage x2
  • Control x1

Marks will be out of 30 - 5 for each category.
